WEDDING FAVORS
Wedding favors are small gifts given as a gesture of appreciation or gratitude to guests from the bride and groom during a wedding ceremony or a wedding reception.
The tradition of giving wedding favors is a very old one. It is believed that the first wedding favor, common amongst European aristocrats, was known as a bonbonniere. A bonbonniere is a small trinket box made of crystal, porcelain, or precious stones. The contents of these precious boxes were generally sugar cubes or delicate confectionary, which symbolize wealth and royalty. In this era, sugar was an expensive 
commodity and was treasured only among the wealthy. It was believed that the sugar contained medical benefits. As the price of sugar decreased throughout centuries, the tradition of giving gifts to the guests reached the general populace and was embraced by couples of modest means.
Now they have become an intricate and necessary part of wedding planning by the bride and groom. They have complemented ceremonies and receptions alike.
Wedding favors are so diverse in style, elegance and theme that options for favors are only limited by the bride and grooms imagination.
The most traditional wedding favor is 5 sugared almonds, symbolizing health, wealth, happiness, long life and fertility. Traditionally the sugared almonds given as wedding favors, were wrapped up in a bag of lace or fabric known as tulle. Then the tulle was tied with a ribbon and handed out to the guests.
All of our favors we sell at The Card Cottage are handmade using the finest Italian products. You can choose from a large selection of designs and colours to match your theme. Filled with either almonds or colored chocolate hearts.
